I’ve just published a new eBook for sale – 8 ‘Funky’ Nursery Rhymes for Solo Piano
The title of this eBook says it all, 8 nursery rhymes you know, 2 versions of each song, one easy and the other harder. The harder version also has bonus written solo improvisation. The songs above is an example of the harder version.
LIST OF SONGS in ebook:
- Baa Baa Black Sheep – Medium Swing
- Hush Little Baby – Country
- Itsy Bitsy Spider – New Orleans feel
- London Bridge – Honky Tonk feel
- Mary Had a Little Lamb – Latin feel – Bossa Nova
- Rock a Bye Baby – 6/8 feel
- This Old Man – Medium Swing
- Twinkle Twinkle Little Star – Latin – with Cuban introduction.
The songs with the words ‘little adult’ under the title in the ebook are for beginners and the younger age group, and these songs are easier to play. The songs with ‘big kid’ under the title are for the more advanced pianist, adults who are really just big kids :). These harder versions are jazzed up a bit within the blues/jazz genre.
The easier versions aim to get younger children interested in the piano through songs they know. The harder versions are to play with your child – these versions are a little more ‘funky’ and you can encourage your child to sing or dance along and get them involved. My younger students love to learn a piece together with me and having an easier version they can play really motivates them.
As a bonus I have written solo arrangements for each of the harder versions to help more advanced pianists understand blues/jazz a little better by learning and studying different arrangements. Each arrangement has something new to offer, one is bluesy, another jazzier, one is a bossa nova… I think you get the picture.
Plus there is a mp3 recording of each version so you can listen to it to help you learn it.
I am writing a series of eBooks like this because I know first hand how hard it is to play jazzy, bluesy arrangements of songs. When I started off… many a moon ago 🙂 it was hard to find any bluesy/jazzy versions of the songs I wanted to play, and when I did the arrangements never really sounded true to the genre. Thus began my mission to write music books with cool bluesy and jazzy arrangements to help you get into this genre.
This eBook is the first of many I plan to write. I’ll be ‘jazzing up’ many more songs in the coming weeks and months, so make sure to keep an eye out for them.
